2006

It was our first January, and we were wondering what the big deal was with the rain. It was Oregon, and it rains. Why was it such a big news story? Well it turns out it was the wettest January in record. If we could weather that month, then we can honestly say we've adapted.

February and March took us back to the Bay Area. Patty attended Stitches West 2006 in Santa Clara, and visited with sewing friends met through the internet. For the fifth year, we went to San Francisco for the Whiskies of the World Expo. As with other trips, Tom sampled and Patty was there to keep him company. The best part of the trip was having breakfast with Russ Taga and lunch with Maria Robinson.

In April, Patty decided to start a blog to share knitting, sewing and family news with friends (an apparently anyone who happens by). It was also an opportunity to gather the miscellaneous photos of friends and hanging out at home from earlier in the year. Pictures of MOST of the things Patty made during the year are here. (Sometimes in the enthusiasm to deliver gifts to the recipient, pictures don't get taken.)

We didn't get to meet Tootsie in December 2005 when Patty's mom was out for a visit, so we decided to take a road trip with the dogs to Phoenix.

Cody and Mandy are pure entertainment—when they're sleeping or just being our dogs.

In 1976, Patty graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in southeast Denver. It was the 30th class reunion in August, but the trip was really all about friends.

The big trip of the year was a cruise of the Mexican Riviera and Sea of Cortez in November. There is Patty's "travelogue" and lots of pictures. We had a great time and met some wonderful people.

We had the opportunity to spend more time with some of the people we met on the cruise, along with some "old" friends at our 22nd Annual Holiday Party, Ornament Exchange and Eggnog Bash (with the requisite Brussels sprouts.)

The holidays brought another visit from Patty's mom, Terry and Tootsie. We can never resist taking pictures of dogs, and with a particularly cute Tootsie around for only a short time, we took a few more dog (and person) pictures.

We had a very nice Christmas day, and followed that by spending an evening of knitting and chatting with friends and family.

2005

In March, Tom turned 50 and we were no longer residents of California, having moved to West Linn, Oregon just days before the big day. In December, we finally "moved in."

In April, Patty met Patti Ferguson in person in Chicago after meeting for the first time online 6 years earlier. No pictures, but lots of good memories.

Two weeks later we were on a plane to Scotland, where we hung out with friends in Edinburgh and Tom took classes and worked at Bruichladdich Distillery.

Just in time for the big rains in New England and the Mid-Atlantic state, we headed east to visit friends in Cape Cod, Boston, and Manhattan in October.

The year ended with a visit from Patty's mom for Christmas. And it snowed.

The dogs have adapted well to the new house and especially the yard. In our travels we also got to meet and greet some dogs and a couple of cats.

An lots of things were made by Patty before the holidays, as well as for the holidays in 2005.

We celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary in Scotland.

Mark Shelton was visiting the Bay Area in June, so we spent our day in San Francisco taking a walking tour.
