About Patty
|
|
We used to have a guest room with a sewing machine in it. Then it was a craft room with a bed. Now there isn't even a bed in it. It's filled with yarn, fabric, knitting and sewing machines, and books. Our guests have been moved to the den/guest room.
In 1993, Patty took good advantage of being laid off of her job after ten years at Apple Computer, by using the time off to rediscover sewing and knitting and discover other crafts.
To support her habits, Patty consulted at Apple, doing everything from program marketing to online customer service. She continues to work with Tom's company Merlin Media, Inc., providing database and project support, as well as, being their part-time office manager. She is also did work with a growing internet software and service company called Open Door Systems, Inc., providing marketing and office support.
Networking with friends landed a contract job at Adobe Systems. That lasted six months and resulted in the offer of a permanent position. After five years of contract work and consulting, Patty had a real job at Adobe as a Programs Manager.
Seven years later, the real job ended when Patty and Tom moved to Oregon. Through the wonders of the interet, Patty contracted back part-time to Adobe and then took on a small part-time job with Innovyx, based out of Seattle. The resulting semi-retirement has afforded more time for spending time at home with Tom and the dogs, knitting, sewing, and whatever else she can get into.

About Tom
|
|
Appropriately, at the age of 14, Tom became a librarian. Some years later, he still is. His "library," however, has expanded beyond books. If he acquires two of anything, it constitutes the beginning of a collection. His collections include books (mostly science fiction), little and big bottles of Scotch whiskey (single malts, of course), laserdiscs, videotapes, Animaniacs art, books on tape (mostly comedy and science fiction) and...
Tom is an avid reader, whose favorite authors include Ron Goulart, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett. If you are familiar with these authors you'll know that Tom prefers the lighter science fiction writing.
After 7 years at Apple Computer, in 1994, Tom joined a small start up, as a partner. There, as the Executive Producer, he and his partner, Andy Soderberg, develop, produce and manage multimedia projects, including website development and interactive CD-ROMs, for large and small businesses. For more information on what they do, visit the Merlin Media web site.
Tom has thrown together a pitiful excuse for a vanity site. If you feel like humoring his sick, delusional idea that he is in any way clever, you can go see it by clicking here. Good luck if you do!

We adopted Mandy in 1998, after losing our dear Rosie. She comes to us from Companion Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.). As near as we can tell she is part Cocker and maybe Border Collie. She's still a bit of a puppy at ten-years-old. She misses her favorite toy, Cody.

Jake is our newest family member. We found him at the Family Dogs New Life shelter in Milwaukie, OR. He's a spunky adult fox terrier, who will fit into our little family quite well.

Our Cody
August 3, 1993 - May 30, 2007
Cody adopted us in 1995, after we lost Stanley, from the Nike Animal Rescue Foundation (NARF) in San Jose. He was almost two years old. With coloring like a Manchester terrier or dark Dachshund, a short tail like a Jack Russell terrier (only Cody's was zig-zagged), short Dachshund or Corgi-like legs, and half floppy ears, Cody's origins were anyone's guess. We just figured he was Dachshund and Jack Russell having the stubbornness of both breeds - which is what made him so endearing.

Memorial to Stanley
February 1982 - April 1995
|
|
Stanley was the first canine member of our family, arriving even before we were married. He was adopted from a pet store in Newark, California in 1982. An AKC registered Cocker Spaniel, his official name was Stanley Thumperlegs Hudson; so named because, as a puppy, when we rubbed his belly his leg moved like that of Thumper, from the Disney movie, "Bambi." Stanley never ceased to amaze us with his antics and intelligence. This picture captures the essence of Stanley with expressive his eyes as he poses for the camera with his favorite toy, a racquetball.

Tribute to Rosie
February 1987 - September 1998
|
|
Rosie was adopted from the Tri-City Animal Shelter in Newark, California 1987. She lived eleven happy years as part of our household, and sometimes thinking she was a puppy. She was a Border Collie-Terrier cross who loved everybody and everything (except fleas). Had we sheep she would have been in her element. As it is she was content herding Tom, Patty, Stanley and Cody around, as long as she was loved. And she was.
