Anniversary Quilt

On April 5, 1997, Russ and Polly Hudson, Tom's parents, celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary.

What do you give a couple who have been married for 50 years? That was the question Patty asked Tom in early February. Then it was "What could I make?" Clothing, though nice, just didn't seem appropriate for such an occasion. Based on an idea she had seen in a catalog, lots of ambition and naiveté, Patty set out to make a Scrapbook quilt.

Squares of muslin and a pen were sent to all the invitees for them to sign. Heidi had her mother send some photos (without telling her why), and sent those along with some of her own. Patty and Tom went through albums both in San Jose and Medford, and the project had begun.

Over 200 photos and miscellany were scanned, processed, printed on to special paper, and transferred onto muslin. The photos were sewn together with the over thirty signature squares we received, along with painted and embroidered pieces to create Patty's first quilt. It took two months from concept till the quilting was completed and the last bead was sewn on the night before the flight to Medford for the party and presentation.

That being said, here is a section of the quilt. Click on it to see the whole quilt image.

More information about the process of making this quilt can be found on About the Anniversary Quilt.

Three years later Patty has made a second quilt in celebration of an 80th Birthday.
