1997 Gifts

It was a year of creative firsts. In February/March, it was Patty's first attempt at quilting when she made THE Quilt, to celebrate Tom's parents' Golden Anniversary. Other firsts include:

Birthday Presents
Evelyn's birthday present was a tote bag featuring GirlFriend. The bag was made of brushed cotton twill. Stencils were used for the background patterns. Images of Girlfriend were printed on ink jet transfer paper and ironed on the bag.

Dads can be the hardest people to buy for. Fortunately, Tom's father, though hard to buy for, likes everything that is handmade for him.

This year, instead of the traditional clothing item, he received a pen made from polymer clay. The method comes from New Ways with Polymer Clay, by Kris Richards.

The clay design was pure experimentation. It is Sculpey III gold, marbled with green, with Pearl Ex gold powder rubbed into the surface.

This is Alistair's pen. The clay design is based on Donna Kato's Jelly Roll Cane, from Jewelry Crafts Aug/Sep 1997. It's gold Sculpey III and gold leaf.

Andy's Pen is a stained glass design, also based on a Donna Kato technique from her book and tapes.

Joseph's pen is another Jelly Roll Cane of blues (Sculpey III mixes) and silver leaf

It's hard to see, but Joe's pen is gold and red Sculpey III basic jelly roll cane.

Tom picked the purple and gold Sculpey III colors and the clay design is experimentation.

Eventually, it's likely this will be someone's gift. Now it's just an extra pen made from Patty's first flower cane.

Still to come...

Anne's beaded velvet scarf.
