Claire Marcus

Damselfly proudly displays many of Claire's monotypes. A monotype is a one-of-a-kind transfer of an inked or painted image from a smooth flat plate onto print paper. Each monotype is unique and cannot be duplicated. Claire's monotypes evoke the sights and colors of the Cape - water, marshes, birdlife, boats, and plants.

Trained in various schools including Boston's Museurn of Fine Arts School, Claire is a multifaceted artist and designer specializing in monotypes, watercolors, clay,and jewelry. She has exhibited throughout New England and Florida and is a member of the Copley Society, the Cape Cod Art Association, the Monotype Guild of New England, and many other artist's groups. She has won nurnerous awards for her work.

Susan Hirtle, Basketry

Susan is another local artist who draws her inspiration from her surroundings. Her baskets are as much about sculpure as functionality. Using native materials such as bittersweet vines and beach grass, her baskets seem to grow naturally from walls and tables. Susan is a member of the New England Basket Makers Guild. She trainedunder Karol Lindquist, a traditional Nantucket lightship basket maker, Tom and Connie McColley, internationally known White Oak basket makers, and Eileen Rich, Plympton, MA.

Susan has created a unique'basket honoring the history and charm of Sandwich. Susan has won awards for her work and recently was invited to participate in the Women Creating Exhibit at the Cahoon Museum of Fine Art.
